Q&A
Preliminary questions before the start of class
Q: Is there a chance I can get into the class if I
show up on the first day?
A: No. All
enrollment is handled online or through our advising
office. If the class is currently full, Advising
suggests that you add yourself to the wait list. If
you have any questions regarding this process or other
aspects of enrollment, please email Advising directly at
this address.
Q: Is it possible to get a permission code from the
instructor to avoid the wait list?
A: No.
All enrollment has to go
through the advising office. The professor does not
have permission codes.
Q: Do I need the latest copy of Zumdahl?
A: The 7th edition is preferable, but the 5th or 6th
may also work well. If you don't currently have the
text, and plan to take the full Chem 1 series, take a look
at the webassign-text bundle on the syllabus
page.
Q: What materials do I need
for the class?
A: Webassign and a copy
of the text.
Q: Should I take the online Chemistry
Self-Assessment exam?
A: Absolutely.
Hopefully, you already have. If your score is not well
above the threshold expected for 1B, please spend time now
carefully reviewing your high school or community college
material. We will do a brief review of select
introductory material, but it will be very fast. We
have much to cover in Chem 1B.
On to Chemistry
Q: Where can I find a good
online periodic table?
A: Here. This is by far
the best one I've seen.
Q: Can you recommend a good orbital viewer?
A: Yes, this one is terrific!
