Homework
Q&A
All homework will be through WebAssign, an online
problem solving environment. Your WebAssign access may be
purchased through the Bay Tree Bookstore. Please see
details on our Syllabus
page.
There is a quick
start guide to help you get set up. We
will use the Self-Enrollment option. If you already have a
WebAssign account from Chemistry 1A or other course, please
continue to use that account, adding Chemistry 1B with the class
key. Our class key is ucsc 3730 5543.
When setting up your WebAssign
account, it is essential that you enter your name as you are known to the Registrar,
and also your UCSC ID. We will not be able to count
homework unless your information is entered properly.
Also, please enter your name with first letters capitalized like this:
First Name: Glenn
Last Name: Millhauser
Homework
assignments will be due each Friday at 11:59 PM. The first
assignment will be available January 9th, the first day of
class, and due the Friday of that week on January 13th.
If you need
help with WebAssign, there is an excellent online Student
Help System. For specific issues dealing with our
assignments, please contact our TA Valerie Chen.
A few helpful WebAssign hints:
Scientific Notation for a number like 5.63 x 10-6 is
entered like this -- 5.63e-6
Use the chemPad within each problem for subscripts, superscripts
and reaction arrows
Chemical reactions often require that you enter the state of
matter, for example O2(g) or H2O(l)
For the first week of class:
You may sign up in WebAssign with our class key (above) before
you purchase any of the options and use the site free of charge
for fourteen days. During this trial period, you will be
given the option to purchase directly or use an access code that
you purchased at the bookstore.
