Opening for a Technician (Junior Specialist) [position has been filled]

The Millhauser Lab in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry (https://www.chemistry.ucsc.edu) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a junior specialist. Under the direction of Professor Glenn Millhauser, the junior specialist will produce small signaling proteins of relevance to metabolic control. Specifically, this research project will focus on the expression, folding, and purification of the Agouti-Related Protein (AgRP), which activates specific G-protein coupled receptors and proximal potassium channels located in the hypothalamus. The successful candidate will also participate in the analysis of pharmacological assays and the design of novel AgRP sequences designed to treat wasting conditions associated with cancer and AIDS. Within and adjacent to the Millhauser Lab are all needed reagents and equipment, including HPLC, FPLC, spectrophotometers, mass spectrometers and NMR spectrometers. Applicants with expertise in protein expression, purification and folding are strongly encouraged to apply.
